The vision of Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy (an eminent gastroenterologist and Padma Bhushan awardee) to unravel etiopathogenesis of GI diseases and evolve treatment modalities for Indian patients culminated in the establishment of Asian Healthcare Foundation (AHF) in 2008 that is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (GOI). AHF conducts research in frontier areas of gastrointestinal diseases in close association with the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG). AHF symbolizes a synergistic combination of clinical expertise and scientific talent in translating research findings into clinical practice. The availability of clinical material and sophisticated instrumentation facilities offer enormous scope for researchers to address important questions in translating research findings to patient benefits.
Asian Institute of Gastroenterology is a tertiary care referral centre for gastrointestinal diseases that is attended by patients not only from India but also from neighbourhood countries (10,000 outpatients and 1,500 in-patients per month). It has the credit of being the largest referral centre in Asia for Therapeutic Endoscopy, conducting the largest number of ERCP procedures in the world. In its up-coming new premises (15,00,000 sqft area) located in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, the Institute would meet the ever increasing demands for extending modern approaches to patient care.
